Since 1999, KB Fitness has helped thousands of people become stronger, fitter and more confident through martial arts classes in London. Led by Chief Instructor Kelly (KB), who has trained more than 10,000 people over the years, the school has always been about far more than punches and kicks.
Many students who first walked through the doors as complete beginners have gone on to become instructors at KB Fitness themselves, helping to carry Kelly’s legacy of changing lives through martial arts.
Over the years, there have been many incredible teachers at KB. One of them is Dee, who taught at the school for over 20 years and played a huge role in shaping KB Fitness into what it is today. Although she no longer teaches weekly classes, she remains an important part of the KB family, attending special events and delivering monthly talks on personal safety exclusive to KB members.
Today’s instructors are a reflection of the values Kelly has instilled in the school for more than 27 years: care, encouragement, high standards and a genuine commitment to helping people grow. Senior Instructors, Jess and Jane, have been teaching at KB for over a decade, training for around two decades. Ryan has trained for ten years. He teaches both group classes for KB members and corporate classes for companies across the UK.
“What I love most about teaching the corporate self-defence sessions is creating a safe, welcoming space where people from all walks of life can build confidence, learn practical skills and experience the KB ethos in a fun and supportive environment.” – Ryan
Zuzanna, James and Yasmin each bring their own strengths, energy and personality to the classes. Together, the team creates an environment that is caring, encouraging and always evolving.
“Teaching at KB is a pleasure. If my students have a good time at class, feel supported and grow in confidence – what a privilege it is, to be a part of that.” – Jess
“Having been brought up as a martial artist in the school, it’s so rewarding to be able to give back by teaching others – helping others on their martial arts journey is a feeling like no other.” – Zuzanna
For Jane, the greatest reward has always been witnessing people’s transformation.
“Being a KB instructor has never just been about teaching punches and kicks. Over the years I’ve seen people walk into the Dojo lacking confidence, struggling with fitness, or simply looking for somewhere they belong, and I’ve watched them grow stronger in every sense of the word. For me, the most rewarding part is helping people realise they’re capable of far more than they thought.”
The impact the KB teaching team has on each member’s journey is undeniable:
“Every instructor has a different energy and way of teaching, but they all embody Kelly’s ethos of caring about each individual member.” – Kim.
“Some of the instructors have been part of my KB journey from the very beginning, and that continuity has meant a lot to me. It’s also been exciting to see new instructors join the team and bring fresh energy and new perspectives.” – Adam
The bond between Kelly and those she has mentored over the years is reflected in the words of former instructor Beth:
“It has been the honour of my life to teach in your school, to have had you award my black belt and sash, and to have you as my mentor and friend for over a decade.”
The new instructors’ video captures what makes KB Fitness special: a team that genuinely cares and helps every member progress at their own pace. Whether your goal is to improve your fitness, learn practical self-defence, relieve stress, build confidence or simply to find a place where you belong, you’ll be welcomed into an ego-free community that wants to see you succeed.
