One of the things that makes KB Fitness in London special isn’t just what happens during training – it’s the way our members support one another every step of the way.

Martial arts may be considered an individual sport, but at KB Fitness, individual achievement is celebrated as a shared success. Whether it’s an in-house tournament, a grading or simply mastering a technique that once felt impossible, every milestone is recognised by the people who have been part of the journey.

In our in-house KB Kickboxing tournaments, there can only be one winner, yet you’ll never find mean-spirited rivalry. Members compete with respect, learn from one another and genuinely celebrate each other’s performances. There are often hugs at the end, where the competitors show their respect and joy for the friendly competition. The applause at the end isn’t just for the winner – it’s for everyone who stepped onto the mat to compete.

The same spirit shines through at gradings. Every person who earns a new belt has spent weeks or months preparing, committing to their training and making lifestyle choices that help them perform at their best. On grading day, they stand alone to demonstrate what they’ve learned, but they are never truly alone.

As Kim put it, “You might be the one grading, but you can feel everyone willing you to succeed.”

Everyone in the room understands what that moment feels like. They know the preparation that came beforehand, the determination it took to keep turning up to class, and the nerves that come with stepping into the grading dojo knowing that no one else can do it for you.

At the end of each grading, Chief Examiner Kelly (KB) invites everyone to congratulate the successful grader. The result is usually a lot of smiles and plenty of sweaty hugs as members enthusiastically celebrate the achievement.

That sense of camaraderie starts from the very first class. New members regularly tell us they felt welcome immediately and were surprised by how quickly any nerves disappeared. Instead of feeling judged, they discover a friendly, encouraging environment where people celebrate effort just as much as achievement.

“I was nervous on my first day, but the instructors and other members made me feel so welcome. It’s like being part of a big family,” Janet.

Training together means bringing out the best in one another. Members encourage each other through every partner drill, celebrate progress with whoops and high fives, and keep the energy high from start to finish. It’s teamwork in its truest sense – everyone contributes to the positive atmosphere that helps everyone enjoy training and continue progressing.

If you’re looking for martial arts classes in London where you’ll be challenged, supported and welcomed from day one, we’d love to meet you. Book your free KB Kickboxing trial class and experience the KB community for yourself.
