In a recent video, Chief Instructor Kelly (KB), demonstrates points fighting, offering insight into one of the structured sparring formats used across KB Fitness Kickboxing classes in London and in-house tournaments.
At KB Fitness, students train through a range of controlled sparring styles, including KB Kickboxing light continuous, KB Kung Fu sparring, KB Self Defence street-based scenarios and points fighting. Across all formats, the emphasis remains the same: control, respect, awareness and technical development within a light-contact framework. And lots of fun!
Points fighting is one of the key formats used at KB Fitness in-house tournaments, where students aim to score clean, controlled techniques to specific scoring areas on the front and sides of the head and torso. Rather than focusing on power or impact, the style places importance on timing, accuracy, footwork and tactical decision-making. Yes, contact is solid but nobody is trying to knock anybody out.
In the video, Kelly (KB) demonstrates the speed and precision involved in points fighting, drawing on decades of experience in the sport and her background within a long-established competitive lineage under Kevin Brewerton, five-time world Kickboxing Champion.
Over time, Kelly (KB) has worked with hundreds of students through sparring development, helping them build confidence, composure and technical awareness in a structured and supportive martial arts training environment in London.
Student feedback regularly highlights the atmosphere created during sparring sessions.
Bess shared: “I love participating in the tournaments and putting into practice what Kelly teaches us in class.”
Ryan commented: “Points fighting is my favourite part of training. It’s fast, technical and really helps you improve timing and reactions.”
Beginners are introduced to Kickboxing sparring gradually, with coaching support to ensure they can develop at a comfortable pace. The focus is always on learning, control and steady progression rather than intensity.
Each round begins and ends with a bow, reinforcing the culture of respect that runs throughout all KB Fitness classes.
For many members, sparring becomes a key part of their training journey, offering the opportunity to apply techniques under pressure, improve reaction speed and develop calm decision-making in a live but controlled setting.
Rather than focusing on outcomes, the emphasis at KB Fitness remains on process – timing, discipline and consistent technical improvement.
This structured approach continues to make sparring one of the most valued and engaging elements of training at KB Fitness.
