At KB Fitness, grading day is a special day for the entire school.
From early in the morning (and even the night before), KB members flood the school’s WhatsApp group with messages of encouragement for those about to grade. Many KB members, whether they are grading or not, join in to create a shared sense of anticipation and excitement. This December was no exception, with the messages sent including:
“Can’t wait to see you smash it, Graders!” – Kelly FN
“Very excited to see our graders get their belts today.” – Jess
“Good luck graders! Come in confident and raring to show off everything you’ve learnt. Kelly has prepared you well – go smash it!” – Beth
This supportive energy continues inside the KB dojo. KB members who are not being assessed on this occasion still attend, to train alongside the graders and assist with partner work. Their energy contributes much to the fired-up atmosphere.
Hafiza, a KB Green Belt who trained alongside the graders, said afterwards: “Well done graders, I don’t think I smiled as much during my own grading than I did today for all of you!”
Her words reflect the special atmosphere when students cheer each other on, showing that the KB Kickboxing grading day is as much about collective joy as it is about individual accomplishment.
The importance of mentorship and guidance shines through as well. KB instructors also celebrate alongside students, recognising both the effort and the results. KB Instructor Jane said: “Such a wonderful day! Well done all the graders and fighters, everyone who mocked and took part in the day. Fab way to end the year.”
KB Kickboxing gradings take on extra meaning when KB Black Belts are involved. Achieving a KB Black Belt in KB Kickboxing is a huge milestone and represents years of dedication, resilience, and growth.
Jess, KB Black Belt and KB Instructor, highlighted this: “KB Sundays are always, always special but there’s a certain extra something when we have new KB Black Belts. Congratulations to Anna and James!”
James, KB Black Belt grader, echoed this sentiment: “What a day! Thanks so much everyone – to Kelly for creating such an amazing school and for guiding us through this grading journey, and to all of you for being awesome and supporting me and Anna on such a huge day!”
Other KB students, like James, made sure to mention Kelly KB, Chief Instructor and the school’s founder, and thank her for both the special grading day, and the past year of martial arts training:
Ruth, KB Purple Belt, said: “It’s an absolute joy to be part of something so amazing and it’s always SO wonderful to see people soar through their gradings! Thank you for making this space for us Kelly.”
Surbhi, a KB Orange Belt grader, said: “Congrats everyone! What a fantastic day! Thank you Kelly, for creating this community and for having us all be a part of it!”
Jess added: “Thank you Kelly for creating our school. Our second family. Our KB home! As Anna said in her speech, we’re incredibly lucky to be able to share in all this together.”
Kelly KB, the Chief Instructor, praised the resilience and heart of her students:
“Another phenomenal KB Sunday. The years pass, some of the faces change, but the fire and heart never depart. You all excelled today. Congratulations and thank you for being an integral part of KB History. Much love to you all.”
KB Kickboxing gradings at KB Fitness aren’t only about earning belts, they’re about celebrating our community and making memories together.
