WHAT IS KB FITNESS?
KB Fitness martial arts academy, headed by Kung Fu and Kickboxing Black Belt, Kelly Bunyan. Established in 1999, there are three training disciplines: KB Kickboxing, KB Self Defence & KB Kung Fu. Click on each discipline to learn more.
WHERE ARE THE CLASSES BASED?
Our classes are held in two martial arts studios in Central London — one located between Euston, King’s Cross, and Mornington Crescent tube stations, and the other closest to Euston. Once you sign up, we’ll provide full location details. Additionally, our classes are live-streamed from the venue, allowing you to train online from anywhere in the world.
WHAT AGE GROUP DO YOU TEACH?
Our London martial arts classes are predominantly for adults. That said children of all ages are welcome to join our online martial arts classes with a parent or guardian.
DO YOU HAVE A PAY-PER-CLASS OPTION?
Our school is too popular / busy to offer this option. You can pay £14.95 to try a KB Self Defence class. A KB Kickboxing trial is free.
WHAT TO WEAR / DO I NEED ANY KIT?
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, e.g. jogging bottoms/leggings and a t shirt or vest top, with trainers. To prevent sweat dripping and becoming a slip hazard, please refrain from wearing cropped tops or shorts. You can invest in the school’s uniform if you wish, but there’s no need to do that unless you choose to take belts.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT? I'M QUITE NERVOUS.
It’s normal to be nervous, but you will be made to feel very welcome. Our KB community is friendly and supportive and we love having new faces at class! At KB Fitness, we encourage our members to smile and bow when greeting a new training partner, and to chat and get to know each other better during the class stretch. To get a better idea of what to expect at our classes, check out our KB YouTube Channel.
I'M ON MY OWN & NEW TO THIS, WILL I HOLD OTHERS BACK?
99% of our members started on their own, as complete beginners. Everyone looks out for each other because we were all beginners once and we understand how it feels to step outside your comfort zone. We’ll make sure you feel safe and supported throughout. The classes include partner work, such as holding pads for one another, as well as air work. You will train with a mix of people including other beginners. You won’t hold anyone back – more advanced students still get a great workout regardless of the experience level of their partner. So be positive, give it your best, and you’re sure to love it!
I'M REALLY UNFIT, OVERWEIGHT & UNCOORDINATED. WILL I BE ABLE TO DO THIS?
Our classes are designed to help you get fit and, if you wish, support weight loss when combined with balanced eating. With regular practice, your coordination will naturally improve. Our instructors are supportive and understanding, ensuring you’re never pushed beyond your limits or made to feel uncomfortable. You are free to progress at your own pace. You don’t have to do every single punch and kick in a class, you can miss some out or take breaks as needed, as you build your stamina. Week by week, you’ll notice yourself getting stronger.
WILL I GET HURT AT KB FITNESS?
As with any sport, accidents can happen during martial arts training. However, due to our semi-contact style and our teaching approach, to date none of our students have suffered serious injuries in our classes. Contact is light and controlled, making injuries highly unlikely.
SHOULD I EAT BEFORE TRAINING?
It’s fine to eat up to 2 hours before training. Bring some raisins or a banana with you in case you feel hungry or experience a dip in energy during class. And don’t forget to bring plenty of water too.
DO I HAVE TO TAKE BELTS?
You are not obliged to grade – take belts – in KB Kickboxing (please note that if you were to join KB Kung Fu in future, grading is mandatory). However, most KB Kickboxing members do choose to grade as it’s a great way to measure your progress and motivate yourself. Once you’ve started your journey with us, you may find that you’d like to experience the highly rewarding feeling of grading. Whether you choose to grade or not, the KB teaching team will fully support you.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO BUY?
You’re not obliged to buy anything. If you would like to experience the exhilaration that comes from contact work, you could purchase our gloves. If you love the partner work as much as many of our members, you might decide that you’d like to start sparring. You’d then need to get some kit, but you can cross that bridge when you get to it, nothing is needed until then.
I AM NOT A BEGINNER, CAN I STILL SIGN UP?
Definitely. We have classes that you could slot into; our lessons cater to beginners, all the way through to Black Belts. Tuesdays are our more advanced classes.
