What with lockdowns stopping people gathering, the vast majority of instructors in the fitness industry transferred their skill to the virtual realm. Previously, most professionals were only offering their classes in person.
Our school was no exception. KB Fitness’s Chief Instructor, Kelly Bunyan, acknowledged that she had not ever contemplated moving the classes online:
“It just wasn’t on my radar. Considering I had been teaching in a dojo since 1998, first in Borehamwood, then London, I had never felt the need to embrace the technology to teach online.”
How quickly we had to adapt, in order to provide a platform to continue to train.
Thankfully we were able to turn things around within a day! The internet is now bursting at the seams with every type of fitness class.
Perhaps as a result, a newer line of advertising has evolved, where there is a distinction between pre-recorded and live classes, accentuating the point that the instructor is present in real time. No doubt market research has proven that it is more appealing and engaging.
At KB Fitness, we offer both options. As our classes have been archived for almost a year now, our members can train at a time that is more convenient to them, outside of the live class times. Or, if their priority is to connect with other training peers, receive instant feedback and guidance, they can attend the live sessions.
Our instructors certainly provide hands-on, personalised instruction – we pride ourselves on knowing every member’s name, repeatedly asking all who train with us what their training goals are, to ensure everybody stays motivated. Through 1-2-1 WhatsApp instruction, Kelly (KB) ensures that our members become the best martial artists they can be.
Senior Instructor, Dee Terret, adds:
“There are a copious number of benefits to training online. First and foremost, we were able to reach ex-students who no longer reside in London, where our physical classes are based, as well as recruiting new people from outside of London.
Plus, we’re all sharing the experience from the comfort of our own home. Consequently, the shower and food are available minutes after class. The commute is currently not required.”
