When people picture martial arts, all kinds of assumptions come to mind.

Some think of brutal fight scenes, of being thrown into an aggressive, frightening environment. Many believe it’s male-dominated and intimidating – that unless you’re already super fit or naturally confident, you simply won’t belong. And others still think it’s not for someone of their age, gender, or body type.

“I need to be fitter before I start.”

“Everyone will be looking at me and judging me.”

“I don’t want to get hurt.”

These are common thoughts – reasons people give themselves not to start.

But the truth is: it doesn’t have to be that way.

Every martial arts school is different – and at KB Fitness, we’ve created something unique. A space that is safe, nurturing, and free from judgement. A space that celebrates diversity, kindness, and community, not ego.

As KB member Tina shared with us about her experience at another school: “I tried a class really local to me for BJJ and loved the grappling side of that but didn’t feel it was quite right for me. I stayed after that class and tried their kickboxing class. It felt very chaotic, their sparring was unsafe, and I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

I absolutely love this school – the way it’s run by women, the integrity, the safety, the compassion. The school is very safe and not scary at all to train in. I love self-defence and can’t wait to attend in person and grapple. And safely spar.”

What makes KB Fitness different?

It’s not just that we welcome all ages, genders, sizes, faiths, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. It’s that we actively lift each other up. There’s no attitude, no judgement, and certainly no intimidation. We all help one another to have a positive experience, every time we train.

“Everyone was a beginner once. And every single member wants the person walking through the door for the first time to succeed,” said Sonya, who’s been training in the school for over 20 years.

It’s about becoming fitter and stronger, yes – but it’s also about healing. Building confidence. Learning martial arts with an open heart.

Tina summed it up: “Thank you for your patience and for everything you all do at the school. It means a lot.”

If you’ve been hesitant to try martial arts because you feared you wouldn’t fit in, that it would be too intense or unsafe – we hope you now know that there’s a place for you at our London Kickboxing classes.
