WHAT IS KB FITNESS?

KB Fitness is a martial arts academy, headed by Kung Fu and Kickboxing Black Belt, Kelly Bunyan. Established in 1999, there are three training disciplines: KB Kickboxing, KB Self Defence & KB Kung Fu. Click on each discipline to learn more.

WHERE ARE THE CLASSES BASED?

The classes is in our martial arts studio in Central London, located between Euston, King’s Cross and Mornington Crescent tube stations. Once you sign up, we’ll give you full location details. Simultaneously, live streamed from the venue, we offer our classes online. So you can train from anywhere in the world.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT COVID-19?

We are fully compliant regarding all government guidelines. The number of members permitted in each class is restricted. Each member has 3m x 3m training space, ensuring a 2m distance is maintained at all times. Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, there is no contact work in our lessons at present (the comments about contact below are for when classes return to normal). Everybody is facing in one direction. For now, we are not shouting (ki-ai'ing) at class. We display our unique NHS app QR code, the building we hire has a track and trace register, directional signage and multiple sanitiser stations. Our studio is so large (MASSIVE!), you will feel as safe as can be in our classes.

WHAT AGE GROUP DO YOU TEACH?

Our London martial arts classes are predominantly for adults. That said a parent/guardian can accompany a 14+ year old child. We actively encourage younger children to train online with their parents.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

During the 6 week beginner Kickboxing course, each class costs £5. Ordinarily one KB Kickboxing class costs £10, however, we give you 2 for the price of 1 for the first 6 weeks. This is the same for our online KB Self Defence classes, where each of the 6 online KB Self Defence classes you pay for, you get one online KB Kickboxing class for free. The total fee is £10 x 6 weeks + a £29 joining fee.

WHAT'S THE ADDITIONAL JOINING FEE FOR?

This is a combined KB Membership and licence fee (for insurance purposes). This is renewed on an annual basis (£49 including VAT). For the first 6 weeks, you pay £29, the remaining £20 is paid in week 7, if you decide to continue.

DO YOU HAVE A PAY-PER-CLASS OPTION?

Our school is too busy to offer this option for our KB Kickboxing classes. However, you can pay £15 per online KB Self Defence class.

I'D LIKE TO TRAIN TWICE A WEEK, CAN I?

Yes, with our current special offer, you get one physical class a week, plus one free online class. If you would like to train more times a week, you can join the KB Unlimited Scheme. For the price of 2 classes per week, you have access to classes 24/7 - all live KB Kickboxing and KB Kung Fu classes in Central London (6 classes per week), plus all live and archived pre-recorded classes online. KB Fitness owner, Kelly Bunyan, doesn't want the price to be a barrier for her most addicted students, hence throwing in all the other classes for free.

WHAT TO WEAR/DO I NEED ANY KIT?

To avoid you slipping in your own sweat, please cover up. So no cropped tops or shorts. If ever you want to, you can invest in the school’s uniform, but there’s no pressure to do that unless you take your belts.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT, I'M QUITE NERVOUS?

It’s normal to be nervous. Everybody was when they first started. It’s not normal of course to go into a room of kicking, punching and shouting people. As ominous as it seems, everybody is friendly, welcoming and nurturing. All KB Members are encouraged to smile at one another and bow when greeting a new training partner. Take a look on our KB YouTube Channel to take a closer look at what to expect. The videos give you an insight into the different classes on offer.

I'M ON MY OWN & NEW TO THIS, WILL I HOLD OTHERS BACK?

99% of our members started on their own. Once you pluck up the courage to step into the dojo, we’ll do the rest to make you feel safe. Everybody looks after each other. We were all beginners once and therefore we know what it’s like to step outside of your comfort zone. Push through and you’ll surely agree it’s worth it. At the moment, everybody trains in the air, as contact work is not permitted, so you won’t have a partner as such. Post COVID-19, the class will involve partner work (holding focus mitts for each other) as well as the existing air work. Even when training returns to normal, you can’t hold anybody back because you’ll be working with other beginners. Even if you were training with more advanced students, they can still get a great workout, whoever they’re training with. So be positive and up for it and you’ll love it.

I'M REALLY UNFIT, OVERWEIGHT & UNCOORDINATED. WILL I BE ABLE TO DO THIS?

The classes are there to help you get fit and, if desired, to lose weight, if you combine your training with a new eating plan and weights program (we can assist you with this). Co-ordination will improve with practice. The instructors are very encouraging and understanding, so you would never be pushed to extreme limits, nor made to feel uncomfortable. It is important you take the classes at your own pace and week by week, you’ll get stronger.

WILL I GET HURT AT KB FITNESS?

An accident could happen with martial arts training, as with any sport. Although, due to extra care being taken, not one of our students has been seriously injured in our classes. When contact is permitted, you'll be striking focus mitts, not people in the classes, so the chance of being hit is very small. For now, you won't be touching anybody

SHOULD I EAT BEFORE TRAINING?

2 hours before training is fine. Bring some raisins or a banana in case you feel hungry, or a drop in energy during class. Don’t forget to bring lots of water too.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE BELTS?

You are not obliged to take any KB Kickboxing belts. That said, the vast majority of KB members grade, although some do refrain. If you were to join KB Kung Fu, taking sashes is obligatory. The KB teaching team will be behind you, whatever your motivation for training. After a few weeks, you might realise that you would like to experience the wondrous grading high.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO BUY?

You're not obliged to buy anything. This information is relevant to when partner work can resume, after the pandemic: focus mitts are provided, so you can strike an inanimate object. You could invest in some hand wraps and gloves to help protect your joints when striking but you don't have to. If you love it as much as all of our members, you might decide that you'd like to start sparring. You'd then need to get some kit, but you can cross that bridge when you get to it, nothing is needed until then.

I AM NOT A BEGINNER, CAN I STILL SIGN UP

Definitely, we have classes that you could slot into; our lessons cater to beginners, all the way through to Black Belts.
