FAQS

WHAT IS KB FITNESS?
KB Fitness is the umbrella name for our martial arts academy which has existed in Central London since 1999. There are four wings: KB Kickboxing, KB Self Defence, KB Kung Fu & KB Yoga. If you visit our respective websites, you can learn more about each discipline.

DO I HAVE TO JOIN ALL DISCIPLINES (KICKBOXING, KUNG FU, YOGA & SELF DEFENCE)?

You can attend KB Kickboxing (Mon-Thur), KB Self Defence (weekly) and KB Yoga (monthly) independently. However, to join KB Kung Fu, you’d need to be attending KB Kickboxing and KB Self Defence classes as well.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN THE MARTIAL ART CLASSES, I'M QUITE NERVOUS?
It’s normal to be nervous. Everybody was when they first started. It’s not normal of course to go into a room of kicking, punching and shouting people. As ominous as it seems, everybody is friendly, welcoming and nurturing. All KB Members are encouraged to smile at one another and bow when greeting a new training partner. Take a look on our KB YouTube Channel (LINK) to take a closer look at what to expect. The videos give you an insight into the different classes on offer.

I'M ON MY OWN & NEW TO THIS, WILL I HOLD OTHERS BACK?
99% of our members started on their own. Once you pluck up the courage to step into the dojo, we’ll do the rest to make you feel safe. Everybody looks after each other. We were all beginners once and therefore we know what it’s like to step outside of your comfort zone. Push through and you’ll surely agree it’s worth it. Sometimes the class will involve partner work (holding focus mitts for each other) other times everybody faces the front and air works. You can’t hold anybody back because you’ll be working with other beginners. Even if you were training with more advanced students, they can still get a great workout, whoever they’re training with. So be positive and up for it and you’ll love it.

I'M REALLY UNFIT, OVERWEIGHT & UNCOORDINATED. WILL I BE ABLE TO DO THIS?
The classes are there to help you get fit and, if desired, to lose weight. Co-ordination will improve with practice. The instructors are very encouraging and understanding, so you would never be pushed to extreme limits, nor made to feel uncomfortable. It is important you take the classes at your own pace and week by week, you’ll get stronger.

WILL I GET HURT
Accidents can happen with Martial Arts training, as with any sport. Although, due to extra care being taken, not one of our students has been seriously injured in our classes. No contact is permitted until all protective gear is worn, and even then it is light and super controlled.

SHOULD I EAT BEFORE TRAINING?
2 hours before training is fine. Bring some raisins or a banana in case you feel hunger, or a drop in energy during class. Don’t forget to bring lots of water too.

WHAT TO WEAR
To avoid you slipping in your own sweat, please cover up with jogging bottoms and a vest or T-shirt. So no cropped tops or shorts. If ever you want to, you can invest in the school’s uniform, but there’s no pressure to do that. We wear special KB martial arts shoes. Again, you don't have to get them, you can train bare foot, or wear trainers if your foot is injured.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO BUY?
You're not obliged to buy anything. Focus mitts are provided, so you can strike an inanimate object. You could invest in some hand wraps and gloves to help protect your joints when striking but you don't have to. If you love it as much as all of our members, you might decide that you'd like to start sparring. You'd then need to get some kit, but you can cross that bridge when you get to it, nothing is needed until then.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE BELTS?
You are not obliged to take any belts. The vast majority of KB Members grade, although some do refrain. The KB teaching team will be behind you, whatever your motivation for training. After a few weeks, you might realise that you would like to experience the wondrous grading high.

I AM NOT A BEGINNER, CAN I STILL SIGN UP?
Of course, we have many classes that you could slot into; our lessons cater to beginners, all the way through to black belts. You can try a KB Kickboxing class for FREE. Check out www.kbkickboxing.co.uk or sign up via email now: info@kbfitness.co.uk.

HOW OFTEN CAN I TRAIN?
Our KB Kickboxing beginner membership currently offers 2 classes a week for the price of 1. If you’d like to train more, you can join our unlimited Kickboxing scheme which gives you access to 6  Kickboxing classes a week for the price of 2. KB Fitness owner, Kelly Bunyan, doesn't want the price to be a barrier for her most addicted students, hence throwing in all the other classes for free. Our KB Self Defence & KB Kung Fu classes are weekly. Our KB Yoga class is fortnightly.

If you still have unanswered questions, please e-mail us and we will respond as soon as possible. We hope to hear from you soon.
